Chandmoni, an ex-banker\\\'s altruistic endeavour

NILPHAMARI, Sept 2: Chandmoni, a house of orphans 8 km south of Jaldhakha Upazila in Nilphamari district a high appreciation of the residents of the region. It is a rare venture of generosity on the part of a retired AGM of Uttara Bank Ltd, named Pizarul Islam Dulal. In his conjugal life he had no children. His wife expired long ago.

Aged 70 Pizarul is now engaged in organising and maintaining an orphanage of infants who lost their parents. The infants are being given the same love and affection by him that they could have gotten from their parents. He invested in it the entire money he earned throughout his life as an officer of the bank.

The orphans are given education, physical and mental care, recreation and instruments for playing different games. He also arranges recitation from poems, debate competition, stage drama and other performing arts for their extra-curricular activities. Yearly sports are also arranged.

In the year 1999 he established the orphanage with only five orphans. At present there are 207 orphans who reside there, out of which 8 orphans are untouchables or horijon community. During the past 12 years 27 orphans passed S.S.C, 12 H.S.C and some are now studying in B.A (Hon's) Course.  Pizarul also gets himself engaged in resisting child marriage. He helped foil 200 child marriages so far.
