SYLHET, Aug 3: The Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal of Sylhet today (Monday) deferred to August 10 the charge framing in the sensational case of killing of former finance minister SAMS Kibria and four others due to absence of nine accused.
The accused who were absent include former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar and Sylhet city's suspended mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
However, five other accused, including Habiganj pourashava's suspended mayor GK Gaus, were produced before the court, sources said.
Tribunal Judge Mokbul Hasan set August 10 for framing the charge as the counsel of accused Ariful Haque Chowdhury prayed for time on the plea of his illness.
Mr Chowdhury has been in the Dhaka Central Jail for long. With this, the charge framing has been deferred for the fourth time.
SAMS Kibria and four others were killed in a grenade attack on 27 January 2005 on an Awami League (AL) rally at Baidderbazar Government Primary School ground in Habiganj sadar.
Then Organising Secretary of Habiganj district AL Abdul Mazid Khan (now lawmaker) filed two cases in this connection.    iqbal1527@hotmail.com
