Chatal workers back to work as husking mills start operation in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Nov 20: As Aman paddy farmers started to sell paddy in the markets, husking mills have also started functioning in the district. As a result Chatal workers who were out of works also came back to works.
There are as many as 531 husking mills in the district and nearly 5000 workers are employed there, most of whom are women. There are six auto rice mills in the district which are preparing to start operations.
Sources said Chatal workers work on no-work-no-pay basis and their remuneration is Tk 250 to 300 per day. They need to work there all day long till the evening. The workers work there in parboiling, drying of parboiled paddy and also winnowing the husk.
