Child dies, 16 get sick from eating watermelon

JHENIDAH, Apr 20: A child died and 16 others got ill after reportedly having a watermelon at Kaloya village in Kumarkhali Upazila under Kushtia around 11:30am Sunday.

The dead was identified as Sejuti, 7, daughter of Akber Ali of the area.

Kumarkhali Thana Police and Kushtia Sadar Hospital sources said 17 persons had become ill after having a watermelon which Akber Ali bought from Kumarkhali bus stand this morning.

The ill were rushed to Kushtia General Hospital at around 9:00am.

Sejuti died there under treatment and her brother Anik, 11, was referred to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.
