CHUADANGA, Jan 29: A bumper production of tomato and its fair price has brought smile on the faces of Chuadangas farmers in the current season.

DAE office sources said a total of 1360 hectares of land have been brought under tomato cultivation in the district.

Of them 280 hectares of land have been brought under Tomato cultivation in Chuadanga sadar Upazila, 345 hectares in Alamdanga Upazila, 310 hectares in Damurhuda Upazila and 425 hectares of land in Jibonnagar Upazila.

The farmers have cultivated tomato of local variety and Shurokkha hybrid tomato in four upazilas.

The growers are very happy as tomato is being sold in the local market at Tk 20 to 22 per kg while it was sold at Tk 14 to taka 15 per kg in the previous year. Though this price is not so high farmers are expecting more profit than last year from the produce for a bumper production.

Mr Haribula Sarkar, Deputy Director of Chuadanga DAE said all technical supports and training  have been provided  to the tomato farmers by District and Upazila level  agriculture officers in the district before planting the seedlings.
