Clash over land leaves man dead in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Feb 03 (UNB): A 58-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his rivals over a land dispute in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram on Saturday noon.

The deceased was identified as Nur Hossain, a resident of Maltibari village under Dharnibari union of the upazila.

Ulipur police station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Golam Mostaf confirmed the matter, saying that there had long been a dispute between the victim Nur and his neighbour Jafar over the ownership of a piece of land in the village.

Both the groups equipped with locally-made weapons got locked into clashes on the land on Saturday noon, leaving Nur dead on the spot, the police officer said.

On information, the body was recovered from the spot and sent to Sadar general hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC.

Two people were arrested in this connection and a legal process was underway, he added.
