Clothes worth over Tk 12m seized in Benapole

JESSORE, Jan 30: clothes worth about Tk 12 million were seized by the task force and intelligence wing of customs department in separate raids from Benapole land port warehouse and Monirampur in Jessore on Wednesday.
The intelligence wing of customs seized 100 bales of silk, synthetic, mixed fabric and some other kinds of clothes worth Tk 50 lac including customs duties from shed number 26, Benapole land port warehouse. C&F agent Cargo Express unloaded the goods.
Desh Sweater Limited of Ashulia, Dhaka, showed import value of the goods as $800 in place of $11,600. The intelligence wing of customs seized the goods on suspicion for tax evasion.
Mostafizur Rahman, deputy director, intelligence wing, customs, Dhaka, told journalists that the goods were imported through bond to dodge customs duty. But as per rule no clothes less than 18 metres of length can be imported through bond.
