Cobra venom worth Tk 460m seized in Sylhet, seven held

SYLHET, July 25: RAB recovered cobra venom worth Tk 460 million and a revolver from a house in bordering Kanaighat upazila Friday.
Seven persons were also arrested during the drive at the house of one Sifatur Rahman of village Rautgram, officials informed at a briefing at RAB-9 headquarter at the city's Islampur.
The arrested are, house owner Sifatur Rahman, Motilal Acharya of Mobarakpur under Balaganj upazila, Abu Hasan of Sylhet city's Khasdobir, Abdul Malik of Fazilchist, Nurul Islam Nannu of Saharpara under Kosba upazila in Brahmanbaria, private car driver Shahidul Islam of village Rampasha and Khondaker Abdul Wahid of village Sadekpur under Kulaura upazila under Moulvibazar district.
Acting on a secret information, the drive was launched at the house of Sifatur, informed RAB'S ASP Khairul Alam.
Twelve pounds of cobra venom, one revolver, 4 rounds of ammunitions, and a private car were seized, the official informed adding it is apprehended the Tk 460 million worth venom was smuggled from France through evading tax.
A catalogue printed in France was also recovered.
