Cold spell claims 5 kids\\\' lives in Magura

MAGURA, Jan 22: Chilly weather is crippling normal life and hampering cropland in Magura. Cold-related diseases have claimed 5 children's lives in the district within a week.   

Intense cold coupled with dense fog is prevailing in the district. People especially daily wage earners and children are suffering extremely. Joyanta Kundu, child specialist of Magura Sadar Hospital said, "everyday a heavy rush of children is seen in the hospital due to intense cold. On an average one hundred children are going being admitted in the child ward of the hospital per day while the number of bed is only 10. Consequently children are lying on the floor of the hospital. Due to intense cold children are being attacked with cold related diseases like bronchitis, pneumonia and diarrhoea. Limited doctors and nurses are facing difficulties to give treatment to the large number of children.  

The temperature recorded in the district for the last 9 days is 13 degree Celsius at the lowest and 17 degree at highest. People are hardly seen in the morning in the roads and streets of the district town.
