BOGURA, Apr 07: Commercial okra farming has been going on in full swing in the district this season.
According to sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman, over 1,290 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of the vegetable.
Okra is being sold at Tk 30 to Tk 40 in the local market. March to April is high time to harvest the vegetable.
"I have cultivated okra on 24 decimal of land this season spending Tk 5000", said farmer Hafizar Rahman of Dighirpara village under Adamdighi upazila.
The grower said he has already made a profit of Tk 8,000 and is expecting to sell rest of the crop at Tk 10,000 if the price remains stable till the end of May.
Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chadra Sarker said, "We have provided all sort of support to the okra farmers to make the farming programme a success. The farmers are happy over getting bumper output and fair market price", he added.
