PANCHAGARH, Mar 31 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion here Tuesday stressed on comprehensive GO-NGO efforts, involving the local communities, to ensure early awareness among the people for reducing risks of natural disasters and calamities.
They were addressing the post-rally discussion organised by the district administration at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in observance of the National Disaster Preparedness Day-2015.
Colourful rally, drawing competitions, prize distribution and mock demonstration of fire fighting by Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel were organised to observe the day with the theme of 'Let us know science based information and bring down losses of disaster.'
Earlier, hundreds of people including officials and representatives of different GO-NGO and voluntary organisations, students, teachers, journalists, public representatives, civil society members and elite brought out a colourful rally in the streets.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin attended the discussion meet as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shamsul Azam in the chair.
Civil Surgeon Dr Ahad Ali, District Livestock Officer Dr Akhteruzzaman Bhuiyan, Executive Director of 'Paraspor' Akternunnahar Saki, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension SM Ashraf Ali, District Muktijoddha Commander Mirja Abul Kalam Dulal, Ware House Inspector of Fire Service Abdul Malek, BRAC Representative AK Azad and journalist Shahidul Islam Shahid, addressed, among others.
