Comprehensive efforts to eradicate violence against women stressed

NARSINGDI, Mar 9 (BSS): Speakers at a post rally discussion here said comprehensive efforts and changed mindset of all concerned could eradicate all sorts of violence against women to establish equal rights and dignity of the womenfolk in the society.
They were addressing a discussion meeting organised by District Administration and Women Affairs Department on the occasion of International Women's Day 2014, at Shilpakala Academy here Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Obaidul Azam attended the meeting as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Suriaya Begum in the chair.
District Women Affairs Officer Omah Mahamuda Khanom presented the welcome speech.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by Former principal of Narsingdi Government College Surjakantha Das, District Muktijuddah commander Motaleb Pathan and BSS District correspondent Mohammad Abu Taher.
The speakers said the country's women have been facing discrimination, repression and violence everywhere for lack of adequate social awareness. They stressed on the right of women and their empowerment to enable them enjoy equal opportunities.
The chief guest put emphasize on dissemination of the concept of gender equality through various advocacy programmes for ending gender-based violence.
