Comprehensive GO-NGO efforts for safety-net programmes urged

PANCHAGARH, Nov 19 (BSS): Comprehensive GO-NGO efforts could ensure proper selection of beneficiaries to make the social safety-net programmes more effective and successful, speakers at the concluding ceremony of a two-day training course said Tuesday.

The government's comprehensive social safety-net programmes have suitably alleviated abject poverty in recent years they said and stressed for ensuring effective management in the implementation process to building a poverty-free Bangladesh.

Dhakkamara Union Samaj Kallyan Federation with assistance of Panchagarh unit of RDRS Bangladesh organised the course at its hall room under the 'Improving Food Security Governance in South & South East Asia through Strengthened Participation of Organisations of Marginalised Farmers Regional Project.'

Thirty-five participants, including union chairman, members, union parishad secretary and members of Dhakkamara Union Parishad Advocacy Affairs Standing Committee on 'Enhancing Budgetary Allocation for Social Safety-net Programmes' took part.

Deputy Director of the Social Service Department of Panchagarh Shahidul Haque and District Facilitator of Local Government Strengthening Project-II Shafikul Alam conducted the two-day training course as resource persons.

With Chairman of Dhakkamara Union Samaj Kallyan Federation Dulen Chandra Roy in the chair, chairman of Dhakkamara Union parishad Aman Ullah Bachchu addressed the concluding ceremony as invited guest.

Senior Officer of the Women Rights Unit of RDRS Bangladesh for Panchagarh Selina Akhter and its Agriculture Officer of the 'Improving Food Security Governance Project' Masud Parvez also addressed.

The resource persons narrated about the social safety-net programmes, characteristics, ongoing social safety-net activities in Bangladesh with budgetary allocations, government role, related laws and rules for proper implementation of the programmes.
