\\\'Concerted efforts can stop violence against women\\\'

RANGPUR, July 1 (BSS): Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has stressed on concerted efforts with changed mindset for eradicating violence against women.
He was addressing a discussion meet on 'Prevention of Violence against Women and Way-outs' organised by Population Services Training Centre (PSTC), an NGO, at the RCC hall room as the chief guest on Tuesday.
The NGO organised the discussion with assistance of Action Aid Bangladesh under financial support of the UKaid to bring all concerned stakeholders under one umbrella for eradicating violence against women in the slum areas in the city.
Presided over by Chief Executive Officer of RCC Ruhul Amin Khan, City Councilors, officials of RCC, civil society members, representatives of PSTC, victims of violence and slum dwellers participated in the discussion.
Moderated by Campaign Officer of PSTC Syeda Nure Nabila Tabassum, Secretary of RCC Fazlul Kabir and City Councilor Idris Ali addressed the discussion as the special guests.
The speakers said that rooting out violence against women is not possible without involving all citizens, including government and NGO officials, public representatives, local community leaders, elite and people from all walks in the society.
They put emphasis on creating awareness among the adolescents, girls and women living in the slum areas to eradicate sexual harassment, torture and violence against them in any form to pave congenial atmosphere for their socioeconomic development.
