\\\'Conservation agriculture\\\' thru IDE instruments highlighted

RAJSHAHI, Dec 6: A field day workshop and exchange of opinion on 'Conservation Agriculture' was held at Kashipur Government School playground at Alipur under Durgapur upazila on Friday morning.

Speakers in the workshop emphasised on the way of increasing over-all production output of land, diversification of crops, decreasing of production cost and increase of production. They further said, aiming at achieving above mentioned targets, Conservation Agriculture Project, IDE-Bangladesh, has been implementing various projects countrywide for last one decade.

Through using the IDE invented instruments of sowing seeds with a little tilling, transplanting paddy plants without tilling and diversifying crop cultivation, hundreds of farmers of the country are being benefited. Those activities were helping implementation of principle of conservation agriculture.

The speakers further mentioned that using the modern, less-labouring processes were decreasing the production cost of crops in a large amount. In this connection, they said, versatile multi-crop planter invented in Bangladesh has been proved a great success and farmers of the country were successfully and economically planting the seeds of crops like wheat, mustard, lentil and maize in their fields over last several years.

Presided over by Azad Rezaul Karim, Chairman of Naopara union parishad, welcome address at the function was delivered by Dr. Enamul Haque, Adjunct Associate Professor of Murdock University of Australia and team leader of Conservation Agriculture Project, IDE-Bangladesh while Akhterunnahar, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Durgapur attended and addressed as the chief guest and Upazila Agriculture Officer, Durgapur Dr. Bmal Chandra Pramanik as special guest.  The function was addressed, among others by Nurun Nabi Mia, Field Manager of Conservation Agriculture Project, IDE Bangladesh. Before starting the programme, local and foreign agro-scientists and researchers visited various crop fields at Alipur village.
