Construction of IMT nearing completion

FARIDPUR, Jun 18 (BSS): The construction of Institute of Marine Technology (IMT) at an estimated cost of Taka 279.7 million on the outskirts of this district town is nearing completion.

The project was taken with the objective of creating skilled marine manpower for meeting domestic as well as foreign demand.  Four similar institutes at Sirajganj, Munshiganj, Chandpur and Bagerhat are being established under the project.

According to a source of Bureau of Manpower and Training, trainings on six traits of marine technology will be imparted to the trainees.

The courses are diploma in marine engineering, diesel engine mechanic, ship building wielding, electrical, mechanical fitter and computer cum auto cad.

On completion, these institutes will play an important role in creating employment opportunities at home and abroad.

The work on the Faridpur IMT is going on in full swing at Chunaghata near the bank of river Padma.

The decision on establishing the IMT in 2010 was possible due to personal initiatives of Overseas Employment and Expatriates Welfare Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain.

The source said apart from the IMTs more 30 training institutes are under construction across the country to meet the increasing demand for marine technical manpower worldwide.

According to the source, when completed about 2300 skilled manpower will be ready for meeting the domestic and foreign demands.
