TANGAIL, Sept 17: Milk price is high in Tangail due to its short supply in the local markets causing sufferings to the common people. The consumers said that one kg of milk was being sold at Tk 35 to Tk 45 in the district town few months ago. But now the price of it's in the markets are Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg.
Normally milk price has been high in Tangail due to huge sweetmeat business running here since long. Milk is the main ingredient for making sweets. But at present the market price of milk in extremely high. The low- middle income people are the worst sufferers as they depend on cow milk to feed their babies.
Amina Akter, 35, a housewife of Thanapara in the town told FE that they used to buy one kg of milk everyday for her six-month old baby. But due to present price she cut off it by half.
Sweets shop owners have also raised prices of their products as production cost has gone up due to milk price.
