CHITTAGONG, Mar 13 (BSS): The country's largest ever environment-friendly brickfield being built at Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong district is likely to start production by the end of this year.
The tunnel kiln-based Peiya Auto Bricks Limited, which is located at 1.0 km east of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, will produce on an average 120,000 pieces of bricks every day once it starts production, managing director of the brickfield Delwar Hossain Khan told the news agency.
"While visiting abroad I saw many companies in developed countries producing quality bricks using tunnel kiln based technology, without polluting the environment. Eventually, I took an initiative of building a green brickfield", Mr Khan said.
The state-owned non-bank financial institutions -- Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (IFFL) -- have financed the private sector's project in line with the government's policy of supporting green initiatives, said IDCOL assistant manager (investment) Md Asadur Rahman Bhuiyan.
He said two more non-banking financial institutions - Meridian Finance and Investment and Union Capital have also participated in the project as co-financiers.
Last year, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the construction work of the brickfield. EPC Corporation is implementing the eco-friendly project.
Farzan Wadud, an engineer and director of the implementing company said the fully automated brickfield will manufacture 27 types of bricks with sand and silty clay.
"The ratio of the sand and silty clay will be 80 per cent and 20 per cent respectively", he said.
