Court convicts four for crop protection embankment work irregularities

SYLHET, Feb 25: A mobile court convicted four people on Monday for irregularities in crop protection embankment work in south Sunamganj of Sunamganj district.

The court also sentenced each of them to two days in jail.

The convicts are: President of Project Implementation Committee (PIC) No 27 in Dakshin Sunamganj upazila Ali Ahmed and general secretaries of PIC No 03 Monzu Mia, PIC No 11 Abul Khayer and PIC No 12 Mir Hossain, official sources informed.

After receiving specific allegations of irregularities and slow progress on the works of crop protection embankment on Jamkhola haor in the said upazila, the authority concerned repeatedly asked for doing the job transparently and in line with schedule.

But things remained unheeded and accordingly a mobile court was constituted with executive magistrate Md Shafiullah, also the upazila nirbahi officer.

The executive magistrate detected the irregularities and detained the convicts.

Accordingly he passed the said sentence and sent the convicts to jail Sunday afternoon.
