GAIBANDHA, Feb 5 (BSS): Health experts at a function here on Wednesday underscored the need for creating much awareness among the people about cancer and its early recovery ways through proper treatment to have a healthy nation.
"Cancer treatment depends on the type of the disease, stage, age, health status and additional personal characteristics. There is no single treatment for cancer and patients often receive a combination of therapies and palliative care" they said.
They made the observations while addressing a post rally discussion meeting jointly organized by Gaibandha Sandhani Donor Club and Himu Paribahan (HP), a social organization formed by the devotees of popular litterateur Humayun Ahmed, at the conference room of Civil Surgeon (CS) office marking the World Cancer Day-2015.
Treatments usually fall into one of the following categories: surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, or gene therapy, they also said.
With acting CS Dr. SMA Jalil in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by resident medical officer Dr. ABM Abu Hanif, medical officers Dr. Nazmul Huda and Dr. Asaduzzaman, district coordinator of HP Alfaz Akhand and president Nahid Hasan Chowdhury.
SMA Jalil said cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. There are over 100 different types of cancer, and each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected.
District coordinator of HP Alfaz Akand said the organization had been working relentlessly since the death of Humayun Ahmed for the establishment of a modern cancer hospital in the country so that the cancer patients could get proper treatment from there.
