Nine CC cameras out of 19 lying inoperative

BOGURA, Jan 20: Crime rates in Shantaher railway station, a large railway junction in North Bengal under Adamdighi upazila in Bogura, are increasing as some CC cameras in the station have gone out of order.
Though the government has set up a total 19 CC cameras to strengthen the security of passengers and officials, the passengers are being deprived of standard service there. Of the total 19 CC cameras installed in the station, nine have been lying out of order accelerating the number of crimes and threatening the security of the passengers.
The frequent snatching and crimes are being occurred every day in the station, causing insecurity among the passengers on the route.
Meanwhile, they demanded the immediate installment of CC cameras to boost security and render standard service to commuters in the railway station.
A passenger Saiful Islam said his money bag with a cash of Tk 5,600 along with ID card has recently been stolen in the railway station. He didn't get any assistance from the authority concerned after lodging complaints.
According to sources, the station was constructed in 1880 and the infrastructure got its shape in 1890 for smooth travel of passengers by train. The infrastructure has been decorated with modern instrument 20 years back.
The CC camera debacle is causing suffering to both officials and passenger and the normal activities including the administrative works of the stations are being disrupted.
Over 20 thousand passengers of Naogaon, Bogura and Joypurhat district use the broad gauge and meter gauge trains daily to travel to different places including Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Tilahati, Dinajpur and Parbatipur.
Station Master Habibur Rahman Habib said he has informed the authority concerned of the matter but to no effect.
