Ctg-Cox's Bazar railway station in final stage

COX'S BAZAR, May 28: Chattogram-Cox's Bazar railway station has reached its final stage. Already 84 per cent work of the project has been completed. Rail tracks have been laid and construction of 86 station buildings is almost complete.

A beautiful oyster-shaped railway station is being constructed three kilometres off the Cox's Bazar beach. This iconic railway station is being constructed on 29 acres of land in the Hajipara area of Jhilongza Union in Cox's Bazar.

The station is being modelled after a beach oyster. The area of the station building is 0.18 million square feet. The construction work in different parts of the six-storey building is going on. Three platforms of 650 metres length and 12 metres width are being constructed around the iconic building.

A railway residential area has been built next to the station. Eight buildings are in the final stage of construction. Apart from residential hotel, the station has facilities like canteen, lockers, car parking etc. Tourists can leave their luggage in the station lockers and spend the day at the beach or sightseeing. Four thousand people can travell through this station a day.

Railway Project Director Mofizur Rahman said we will be able to run trains in September this year. He said that there are 9 stations including Cox's Bazar iconic station. The remaining eight stations are at Satkania, Lohagara, Chakria, Dulahazara, Eidgaon, Ramu, Cox's Bazar Sadar and Ukhia.

Project officer Mufizur Rahman said the construction of all railway stations is almost at the final stage. Three big railway bridges have been constructed on the Sangu, Matamuhuri and Bankkhali rivers. Besides, 43 small bridges, 201 culverts and 144 level crossings are being built. A flyover is being constructed in the Kenochia area of Satkania, two highway crossings in Ramu and Cox's Bazar areas. A 50m overpass and three underpasses are also being constructed for the movement of elephants and other wild animals.

New dual gauge single line is being constructed from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar via Ramu with the fund of ADB (Asian Development Bank). It will be linked with the Trans Asian Railway.

The tourist town of Cox's Bazar will come under the railway network. Safe, comfortable, cost-effective and eco-friendly communication system will be introduced for tourists and local people, easy and low-cost transportation of fish, salt, rubber raw materials and forest and agricultural products will be possible.

President of Cox's Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abu Morshed Chowdhury said tourists will be able to come to Cox's Bazar easily from Dhaka. It will be possible to easily bring raw materials from the northern region, he added.
