CU Sports Science Deptt students protesting session jam, lack of teachers

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 17 (UNB): Students from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science of Chittagong University (CU) locked the main gate of the university demanding a solution to academic session jam and the appointment of permanent teachers.

The students staged a protest in front of the university's main gate around 1:45 pm on Wednesday.

Prabiul Alam Pasha, a student of the department's 2019-20 academic session, said that the department has started its journey from the 2015-16 session. "But so far there are no permanent teachers, officials, and staff. We have to take to the streets for results after the exam and the new academic year's routine," he said.

Chairman of the department Prof Dr Mohammad Abul Mansur said that this is a special department related to sports.

"It is not like the Bengali or English department. CU is one of the only three universities in Bangladesh with this department. As a result, there are not enough graduates from this department. There is a lack of primary qualifications for those who apply to be teachers. For this reason, it was not possible to appoint teachers according to the demands of the department. As a result, the session jam has been prolonged," he said.
