Cultivation of ginger starts in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, June 6: Cultivation of ginger has started in Nilphamari district and it is going on speedily.
Sources said ginger farmers of the district give proper importance on the cultivation of the spice as 50 per cent of the total ginger production of the country comes from this district.
The cultivation of ginger in this year has been late because of rain in the region. Ginger is mainly cultivated in the highlands and also in medium highlands where rain water clears and drainage system prevails.
DAE sources said per acre production of ginger did not increase in the district till now and virus-free and high breed seed is not available what the farmers are demanding for so long.
The same sources said this year's target of ginger cultivation in the district is in 2150 hectares of land and production target is 21930 tonnes at an average per hectare production target of 10.20 tonnes.
