PABNA, Apr 03: Grassroots onion farmers in the district have started harvesting their immature onions from their produce fearing rain.
Apart from this, onion price has come down in the markets across the district.
Growers said they are frustrated over the situation.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials, onion is a popular item among the growers in the area. So far 26,000 hectares of land have been brought under cultivation of onion in the district this season.
A good number of cultivators in Santhia and Bera upazilas said farmers generally sow seeds of the spice crop within December and January. And end of April is their harvest time.
They said growers would get a good yield if they harvest the crop after at least two weeks.
Saidur Rahman of Barasila village under Bera upazila, said, "I have cultivated onion on five bighas of land. I've already started harvesting my produce."
