Cumin being cultivated for first time in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Mar 06: Cumin, a spice crop, has been cultivated for the first time in Gobindganj upazila of Gaibandha district.

Farmers expect they will achieve a success in cultivating cumin for the first time in Gaibandha.

According to official sources, Barijira-1 has been cultivated on an experimental basis as a spice crop at the farmer level in Bara Satal Batail village in Gobindganj upazila.

"Cumin is under cultivated in the form of a demonstration plot under the improved variety and technology extension project of spices," an agricultural officer said.

Farmers with special training on cumin cultivation have also been very successful in experimental cumin cultivation.

According to the sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Gaibandha, this cumin has been cultivated on 2,000 acres of land in Gobindganj upazila.

Md Azbar Ali Akando, son of late Sabed Ali of Baro Satail-Batail village of Gobindganj upazila and head teacher of Fateh Ullapur Government Primary School, has said that Barijira-1 is cultivated under the supervision of the local agriculture department with special training at Mahasthangarh Spice Research Institute of Shibganj upazila of Bogura district. I got a success in cumin cultivation."

Gaibandha DAE Deputy Director Md Khorshed Alam says that Barijira-1 has been experimentally cultivated in Gobindganj upazila under the project of improved varieties and technology expansion of spices.

Farmers are being given all kinds of support to cultivate cumin.

Due to DAE cooperation and good yield, other farmers of the area have expressed interest in commercially cultivating cumin in the future.
