RAJSHAHI, May 24: Fabric shops and cloth stores of Rajshahi city are now full of varieties of three-pieces. With new, attractive designs three pieces of different brands are already to be sold in city markets ahead of the Eid-ul-fitr. Even after the first week of Ramadan, city fabric shops are seen with crowds, mainly female customers to purchase three pieces.
At the cloth market of Shaheb Bazaar, a large number of women, including children and young women, were seen to visit. Many of the three pieces will be required to resize and sew from the local tailors. That is why to avoid crowd at the tailor's shops, women were seen to choose and purchase their three pieces from the markets.
Hena Akhter, proprietor of Hira Cloth Stores at Shaheb Bazar, said cloth traders were now busy to decorate their shops with new designed, fashionable fabrics of various brands. Demand of three pieces is witnessed from the first week of the holy month of Ramadan.
However, she said the selling and bargaining at the city cloth shops has not been started fully till now.
She expressed the hope that shopping spree will be started in the full swing within a week. She said she has already decorated her shops with sufficient number and varieties of three pieces. There are some new collections this year. The collection includes - Rajsthani three pieces, organdy, Indian saturn, katan, Joypuri and Pakistani lone. Rajsthani three pieces is being sold from Tk 2,000 to Tk 8,000, organdy from Tk 800 to Tk 2,500, katan at Tk 3,000 to Tk 5,000, Indian saturn from Tk 800 to Tk 2,000, Joypuri at Tk 500 to Tk 2,000 and Pakistani lone from Tk 500 to Tk 1,600.
College students Monira and Mahi who were seen to visit the store informed, they were choosing a good bargain and were watching the prices, designs and varieties. After returning home, they will discuss with their family members and took the decision of purchasing of fabrics for the holy Eid. They said, this year there were varieties in collection of three pieces in the city fabrics shops.
At the Mahin Matching Corner of cloth market of Shaheb Bazaar, sellers and customers were seen to bargain the prices. Mithu Sheikh, owner of the shop informed, most of the customers were now just choosing or watching the varieties in designs and brands of the cloths. The selling of three pieces and ready-made cloths has not yet been geared up. It will take a few more days to gear up selling. He said, the price of cotton three piece is being sold at Tk 1,300 to Tk 3,500, three georgette three piece is Tk 1,000 to Tk 2,500, the lone three piece is at Tk 950 to Tk 1,650, printed three pieces at Tk 500 to Tk, 1,200, ground touch three piece at Tk 1,500 to Tk 5,000 and Indian ones are being sold from Tk 2,000 to Tk 5,000.
Merina Begum, a college teacher who was visiting cloth market of Shaheb Bazar, to avoid rush of customers, she usually starts Eid shopping early. She further said within a week the markets will be full of crowds and it will be hard to enter into the shops. She, however, said prices of all sort of three pieces were much higher than that of last year. She said, she had already chosen two Indian and one ground touch three pieces but the price was exorbitant. If the price was reasonable, she would purchase both of those.
Shop owner Mithu Sheikh said prices of three pieces at his shop are regular and normal.
