DAE eyes 0.69m tonnes of maize yield from six southwestern dists

JASHORE, Apr 03 (BSS): Farmers are expecting a bumper Maize production in six south-western districts of the country this season.

A total of 79,566 hectares of land have been brought under the Maize cultivation in the area with fixing the production target of 6,95,248 tonnes, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials here said on Tuesday.

The six districts are - Jashore, Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia, Chuadanga and Meherpur.

Deputy Director of Jashore DAE Dr.Sunil Kumar Roy said Bumper maize production is expected due to favourable weather conditions along with adequate supplying of necessary seeds, fertilisers and pesticides.

The government and non-government banks had already disbursed crop loans among the farmers to make the Maize cultivation a complete success in the districts.

DAE officials said, Of the total land, 49,175 hectares of land have been brought under cultivation in Chuadanga with production target 4,29,691 tonnes of Maize, 13,134 hectares of land in Jhenidah with production target 1,14,765 tonnes, 8,922 hectares of land in Kushtia with production target 77,960 tonnes, 465 hectares of land in Jashore with production target 4,063 tonnes, 20 hectares of land in Magura with production target 175 tonnes, 7,850 hectares of land in Meherpur with production target 68,593 tonnes of maize.
