DAE takes up extensive prog of jute cultivation

GAIBANDHA, Apr 4 (BSS): Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up an extensive programme of jute cultivation in the district during the current season.

Official sources said a total of 14,288 hectares of land in seven upazilas of the district would be brought under the programme with a production target of 1,56,594 bales of jute. Of the total, some 1250 hectares of land would be cultivated in Sadar Upazila, 950 in Sadullapur Upazila, 260 in Palashbari Upazila, 1050 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 4050 in Sundarganj Upazila, 3020 in Saghata Upazila and 3498 in Fulchhari Upazila of the district, the sources said.

To make the jute cultivation a success, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation is selling high quality seeds like O-9897, O-72 and JRO-524 among the farmers through their dealers and three sale centres at Sadar, Gobindaganj and Palashbari upazila headquarters, the sources said.
