MAGURA, June 19: The story is about a deaf and dumb youth who has conquered his physical limitation by dint of persistence.

Mishon Mollah (22) of Madhobpur village under Magura Sadar is deaf and dumb by birth.

His day-labourer father was not able to send him any specialised school or any other institutions where he could learn things in special ways.

Mishon used to go to local primary school with other children.

During the time he learnt both the reading and writing.

In 2006, a local representative of an NGO came to him.

The BRAC official was able to make him understand that he could be a self-reliant by taking training on tailoring.

Mishon later started training on making dresses at the NGO without paying any fees.

After completing six-month training course, the NGO provided him a shop at Gangnalia Bazar under Sadar upazila.

The physically-challenged youth now he earns Tk 6,000 to Tk 7,000 per month.

He helps his family financially.

His younger brother passed SSC examination this year.

Mishon bears all the education cost of his brother.

Being encouraged by Mishon success, two other deaf and dumb girls of the village are now receiving training from the NGO.

BRAC official Murad Hossain said, "Under the Skill Training Advocacy Resource Programme, we provide training to the school dropouts and disabled youths."

He further said, "During training we provide the trainees Tk 800 per month. We also arrange employment after completing the course."

BRAC Magura district representative Rokeya Begum said, "We are proud of Mishon as he makes his own living from his shop."
