JESSORE, July 15: Elaborate programmes were chalked out marking the death anniversary of Shamsur Rahman, a special correspondent of Dainik Janakantha and a stringer of BBC Bangla Service tomorrow (Thursday).
Unidentified assailants shot dead journalist Shamsur Rahman at his Daratana based office while he was writing a report on July 16, 2000.
Selina Akhter Lucky, wife of the slain journalist, filed a case with the Kotwali police after his death. The Criminal Investigation Department, where the case was later shifted, submitted its charge sheet, accusing 16 people, five of whom were journalists, including Farazi Ajmal Hossain, special correspondent of Daily Ittefaq.
In 2005, the case was shifted to the Speedy Tribunal, Khulna.
The case came to a halt as the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court had issued a stay order on the case seven years back, in response to a petition made by Farazi Ajmal Hossain, said Sajed Rahman, younger brother of the deceased and also staff correspondent, Dainik Janakantha.
