KHULNA, Nov 24: The export of produced goods of 8 betelnut factories of Mongla EPZ has been suspended due to indecision between Customs and exporters concerned, sources said. Betelnut containers are kept waiting at the port yard for exporting. As a result exporters are loosing about Tk. 3.23 million per day. If the situation continues the EPZ users will lose their interest in production.
Galib Kabadia, Chairman of M/s Tara Exim of Mongla EPZ said that there are 8 betelnut factories in Mongla EPZ from the beginning of the EPZ. The factories are Tara Exim Corporation (BD), Rasha Industries (BD), Omker Agro Bangladesh Limited (foreign), Bangladesh Agro Processing, Tripoti Industries Ltd (India-BD), Erica-Nut Growers and Processor, Jahan Exporters Ltd and Shaptorshi Agro Processors Ltd.
Source said that as the Value Added Tax (VAT) has not been fixed on exportable betel nuts from May-22 of the current year and for this reason betelnut export is suspended from September-23.  If the situation continues the betelnut factories would be closed, concerns said.
