Diseases damage Aman plants in Bogura

BOGURA, Oct 07: T-Aman fields in all twelve upazilas of Bogura district are getting largely damaged due to various diseases, including leaf rot, rat infestation and pest attack under the influence of hostile weather.
Farmers are worried that targeted yield of paddy could not come this season due to the maladies at the time when only greenery comes into sight up to the horizon.
On the other hand, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bogura is providing the farmers with logistic support to ensure bumper yield of T-Aman by preventing the diseases.
According to the DAE district office, T-Aman has been planted on 1,93,330 hectares of land in all twelve upazilas of the district this year.
Of this, some paddy on 60,000 hectares of land has already been affected with the diseases, DAE added.
Meher Alam, a farmer from Chelo village under Shajahanpur upazila, said pest attacks have aggravated this year due incessant rainfalls.
Consequently, production cost will increase and profit will be less this season, said farmer Ripon Kumar Barmon of Kahaloo upazila of the district.
Shajahanpur Upazila Agriculture Officer Noor Alam said there is a possibility of bumper yield of T-Aman in the upazila this year. However, due to hostile weather, insects and some diseases are seen in the fields time to time.
