RAJSHAHI, Mar 9 (BSS): Some rural people have attained economic emancipation with social initiative creating jealousy among their respective fellow people in the district.
But, once upon a time, they thought that their distressed condition was the curse and that fate will continue till the end of life.
Afroza, 40, of Karigorpara village under Durgapur Upazila of the district, has now become almost self-reliant as she earns Taka 100- 150 per day after operating a small-scale puffed rice (muri) shop near her resident.
Before getting local aid she had to pass her days with manifold sufferings including poverty and hunger as she had been left out by her husband forever around five years back.
Within the next couple of years, extent of her miseries has been enhanced further when her daughter returned back to her family with a six-month baby in lap after being divorced by her husband for dowry.
On June 29 last, Afroza received Taka 800 as business capital from the students of Durgapur Girls High School and the money was collected by the students through a quiz competition organized by BRAC under its Advocacy for Social Change Programme on June 22.
Likewise, disabled Ataur Rahman has ultimately driven out his longstanding poverty and hunger through operating a tea stall with local support in a Rajshahi village.
Before getting financial help from his neighbours it was his dream to become self-reliant from his begging condition.
