NILPHAMARI, Dec 7: Radish is being sold at Tk 1 per kg in the markets in Nilphamari district. Along with radish the price of other vegetables also has fallen drastically.

The prevailing retail price of cauliflower is Tk 5 per kg, cabbage Tk 4 per kg, bean Tk 10 per basil Tk 2, eggplant Tk 8 in the kitchen markets of the district.

Sources said extensive cultivation and over production of the vegetables created the situation. On the other hand lack of proper marketing facilities also brought down prices culminating in the frustration of the growers.

When contacted Abu Alam, a vegetable farmer of Dangapara village of Bhogdaburi UP of Domar upazila said he cultivated radish in 60 decimal of land where he produced 200 maunds of the vegetable but due to sudden fall in price he would have to sustain a loss of Tk 10000 as his cost of cultivation was nearly Tk 20000.
