Drop TRM projects, demand Bhabadao farmers

JESSORE, May 14:  Affected farmers of Bhabadah water-logged areas under the banner of Bhabadao Water- logging Resolving Movement Committee in a press conference demanded cancellation of all the tidal river management projects.

The press conference was held at Jessore Press Club Wednesday noon.

They said all the dams, embankments and sluice gates should be removed too for the sake of bringing natural flow of water in the concerned rivers, especially the   Bhabadao related areas.

Based on the design made by Institute of Water Modeling, the Water Development Board is implementing one after another projects at Bhabadao water-logged areas spending huge money. No benefit comes from the projects to the affected people, people of water-logged area told the press conference.

They also demanded withdrawal of cases filed against a total of seven thousand farmers of Bhabadao water-logged areas.

Sirajul Islam Sarder, convener, Bhabadao Water- logging Resolving Movement Committee, Paritosh Debnath, joint convener and leaders of the committees- Khalid Lashkar, Habibur Rahman, Samiran Biswas, Deb Kumar Mandol and a number of farmers were present at the press conference.
