CHATTOGRAM, Jan 31 (BSS): A Chattogram court on Wednesday awarded life term imprisonment to a drug trader for trading drugs at Arefin Nagar in the city in 2020.
The court of Chattogram 4th Metropolitan Additional Sessions Judge Shariful Alam Bhuiyan awarded the punishment to drug trader Truck driver Emranul Hoque, 26, hailed from Pekua Upazila under Cox's Bazar district.
The court also fined Tk 10,000 to him in default he will have to suffer more than one year of imprisonment.
According to the prosecution story is in brief that acting on a tip-off a team of RAB detained Enamul, with 48,800 pieces contraband from city's Arefin Nagar Bazar area under Biyazid thana on September 12 in 2020.
The then RAB Senior Warrant Officer Sirajul Islam, filed a case with Biyazid thana against the alleged drug trader on same day.
Police submitted the charge sheet before the court on January 27, in 2022 against him while the court framed charges on March 08, 2023.
