BOGURA, July 29: Around 25 kilometre- long Dupchanchia- Akkelpur link road has been lying in a dilapidated condition for a long time and the present heavy downpour has turned it into a death trap.
Some 15 kilometres of the road lie under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura district and the rest under Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat district.
The road is used for transporting raw materials and goods from Joypurhat to capital city Dhaka. The road plays a vital role for the business community.
Besides, hundreds of students of Mahila College, Jahanara Degree College, Boro Nilahali Beragram College, Technical College, Darus Sunna Fazil Madras, Zianagar High School under Dupchanchia upazila and Akkelpur government College, womem college and schools travel through this road.
Abdur Rahman of Baragram village under Dupchanchia upazila alleged several times money was allocated for repair of the road but nothing has been done yet. Elected representatives are doing nothing for development of the road, he further alleged.
Due to the bad shape of the road commuters have to spend extra time to reach their destinations. Moreover, accidents regularly take place on the road.
Siddiqur Rahman of Jianagar village of Dupchanchia upazila said "The road has turned into a death trap in absence of repair work for a long time".
Nurul Islam Talukder, local Member of Parliament (MP) said, "We have informed the authority concerned of the bad shape of the road. They will take initiative as soon as possible", he added.
