NILPHAMARI, Feb 18: The government has undertaken an initiative to establish an Economic Zone (EZ) in Nilphamari district.
Deputy Commissioner Nilphamari office sources said the economic zone is to be established in Dhelapir area, 2-km north of Syedpur municipality. The zone is among other economic zones to be established by the government which are initially approved by the site selection committee.
Sources said the approved sites will be finalised in a meeting of the Governing Board (GB) of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority under the Prime Minister's Office shortly.
The establishment of the economic zone is to attract both foreign and domestic investment.
While contacted President of Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce and Industry S.M. Shafiqul Islam expressed his satisfaction and said the economic zone would go a long way in the industrial development of the district which would also mitigate employment crisis.
