Efforts for effective disaster management underscored

RAJSHAHI, Dec 3 (BSS): Concerted efforts of both government, non-government and voluntary organizations is vital to reduce the loss of lives and assets caused by various natural disasters like flood and river erosion in the region, speakers at a participatory meeting said here on Tuesday.

There is a need for more proactive and comprehensive approach for reducing the risk of disasters and successful disaster management, which also requires strengthened capacity of community and local government bodies.

They said natural calamities in the region have become normal phenomena and should be tackled with coordinated efforts of the authorities concerned.

The observation came at a daylong divisional level knowledge-sharing meeting styled "Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation" held at the conference hall of Divisional Commissioner yesterday.

Divisional Commissioner's Office and Trinamool, a non-government organization, jointly organized the meeting in association with Concern Universal- Bangladesh, Cordaid and Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction Forum.
