Empowerment of women in local govt bodies emphasised

RANGPUR, Sept 3 (BSS): Proper empowerment of the elected female public representatives in the local government bodies can further accelerate the pace of balanced socioeconomic developments, welfare and empowerment of the rural women.

The views were expressed at a day-long development workshop on 'Challenges in Empowering Female Public Representatives in Local Government Bodies and Way-outs' held at upazila parishad auditorium in Pirganj upazila town recently.

Pirganj upazila administration organised the workshop with assistance of the Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.

Upazila level government officials, union parishad chairmen, members and female members, female members from reserved wards of Pirganj upazila parishad, leaders of different local women organisations, civil society members and journalists participated.

Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Mazharul Islam presided over the workshop.
