Excessive heat makes life unbearable in Pabna

PABNA, May 23: The excessive heat, high sunshine and unbearable hot winds have crippled people's life in the district. The Ishwardi Met office recorded the highest temperature of 37.5 Degree Celsius in Pabna area over the last five days.
At noon, the streets of the district town now turn empty of people everyday. People going to different places suffer much as they have to wait for a long time to get any vehicle, the number of which turns few amid this horrible weather condition.
Many rickshaw and van pullers cannot pull their vehicles and pass away time idly due to lack of passengers. Rickshaw-pullers Humayun Ali, Hydar Ali, Khalilur Rahman and others in the Pabna district town said, their income has dropped by fifty to sixty percent as they can't drive their rickshaw-van for a long time due to excessive heat.
Azim Uddin, the secretary of Day Labourers' Samity at Maligasa union of Pabna sadar upazila, said, maximum day labourers in the area are not interested to work under the sun due to heavy heat. "Now each labourer is hired for Tk 400 per day for working in the field but it was Tk 300 three days ago," he said.
Dr. Abdus Sattar and Dr. Shafiqul Hasan Jweel, medicine department of the Pabna Medical College Hospital said that children and elderly persons are being attacked with different diseases including diarrhoea, dysentery, jaundice and fever which broke out in the district over a week in the heat wave.
