Experts focus on sustainable agriculture for food security

RAJSHAHI, Nov 12 (BSS): Ensuring sustainable agriculture has become an urgent need for attaining food security and high valued nutrition for the gradually rising population, said experts at a discussion in the district on Monday.
They mentioned that all the government and non-government entities concerned should come forward and work together to attain the cherished goal.
They came up with the observation while addressing the launching workshop of the 'Smallholder Adaptive Farming and Biodiversity Network (SAFBIN)' project at Nanking Darbar Hall.
Rajshahi Region of Caritas Bangladesh organised the workshop in association with Caritas Austria and Caritas India.
Chairman of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority Dr Akram Hossain Chowdhury addressed the workshop as the chief guest with President of Caritas Bangladesh Reverend Gervas Rozario in the chair.
Additional director of Department of Agriculture Extension SM Mustafizur Rahman, Prof Monzur Hossain of Department of Botany in Rajshahi University, Country Director of Caritas Switzerland Amrita Rejina Rozario, Executive Director of Caritas Bangladesh Francis Atul Sarker and its Regional Director Sukleas George Costa also spoke.
In his keynote presentation, Zillur Rahman, National Coordinator of Caritas Rajshahi, says the SAFBIN project will be implemented in 25 villages of three unions under Rajshahi and Natore districts in Bangladesh part.
The project intends to poverty elimination, attaining food security and high valued protein and expansion of sustainable agriculture through diversified interventions.
