PABNA, Feb 20: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute (BSRI) have taken up a programme to cultivate sugarcane in Pabna during the current season.
The DAE and BSRI offices sources said under the programme, a total of 502 hectares of land would be brought under sugarcane cultivation with the production target of 24,008 tonnes of sugar.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Pabna and Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute (BSRI) at Ishwardi sources said of a total of 28 hectares of land would be brought in Chatmohar Upazila with production target of 1,339 tonnes of sugar, 119 hectares in Sujanagar with a production target of 5,691 tonnes, 73 hectares in Santhia with production target of 3,491 tonnes, 203 hectares in Bera with a production target of 9,707 tonnes, 7 hectares in Bhangura Upazila with production target of 335 tonnes and 37 hectares in Ishwardi, Pabna sadar and Atghoria upazilas with a production target of 1,771 tonnes of sugar.
The crop specialists and field-level officials of the DAE and BSRI are providing their field-level services to the cultivators following directives of the government.
