Faridpur land dispute leaves one dead


FARIDPUR, Apr 03 (UNB): A woman was killed allegedly by her rivals over land-related dispute at Amgacchia village in Boalmari upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Mamtaz Begum, 52, wife of Yunus Sheikh of Bakhunda village in Sadar upazila.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Boalmari Police Station, said one Rustom Ali and Abul Khaier of Amgacchia village had been at loggerheads over the ownership of a pond for long.
A scuffle took place among the supporters of both the groups over the issue following an altercation in the morning.
Hearing screams, Mamtaz, who came to visit sister's residence, came out and tried to quell the disputed groups.
At one stage, someone hit Mamtaz with a sharp weapon, leaving her dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
