Fire guts five shops in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, Sept 01 (BSS): Five shops were gutted in a fire at Mansabari Bazar in Kotalipara upazila of the district in the early hours of Thursday.

The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop of the bazar around 1:00am and soon engulfed the adjacent business establishments, in-charge of Kotalipara Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Nazrul Islam told the news agency.

Being informed, a team of the firefighters from Kotalipara Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals and affected businessmen after one hour of efforts, he added.

Fire Service and Civil Defense sources said the extent of losses caused by the fire could not be known immediately but the affected businessmen claimed it would exceed around Tk 0.5 million.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ferdous Wahid said that arrangements will be made for the affected traders to get government support.
