CHATTOGRAM, July 26: The fishermen are happy with netting a huge amount of hilsa fish in Chattogram after the 65-day ban imposed by the government ended on Saturday.
After the ban was lifted, fishermen sailed to the sea and caught fish and brought those to the Fishery Ghat area in Chattogram.
They expressed satisfaction over the abundant catches of the silvery fish in the season. Fisherman Shanti Ranjan Jolodash said they have collected a big amount of hilsa fish in the current season and are getting good prices for those.
During a visit to the Fishery Ghat area, the FE correspondent found the fishermen were satisfied with the brisk sale of hilsa and its prices.
Medium-sized hilsa fish was sold at Tk25,000 to Tk26,000 per maund while big-sized hilsa was available at Tk28,000 to Tk 35,000 per maund at the wholesale market in Fishery Ghat.
Fish traders were selling medium-sized hilsa at Tk600 to Tk 800 per kg while big-sized hilsa at Tk1,000 to Tk 1,200 per kg in the retail markets of the port city.
Manik Lal, a wholesaler at the ghat, said, "Fishermen are delighted now as they are getting good catches of hilsa fish in the season."
