PABNA, Aug 12: A mobile court in a drive at Bangladesh Roads and Transport Authority (BRTA) arrested five alleged brokers from the office on charge of harassing licence seekers. The mobile court later sentenced the detainees to four months imprisonment and fined each of them Tk 5,000.
The convicts Abul Hossain (29), Samir Hossain (25), Ratan Hossain (26),  Shariful Islam (23), Sweet (26) and  Jony (28) hailed from different villages of the district headquarter were engaged themselves as brokers in the BRTA office, mobile court sources said.
"When the people come to the BRTA for driving licence and vehicle licences the accused force them to pay bribes on condition of completing their licences. In this way the licence seekers from different areas of the district are often harassed by the brokers in the BRTA office," Mominul Karim, assistant superintendent of Police said.
According to the allegation from the licence seekers the mobile court raided the office Wednesday morning and arrested them on charge of fraud with the licence seekers, the ASP said.
The drive would be continued to free the office from all brokers, he added.    motiarfe@gmail.com
