Flood-damaged roads in Sunamganj hamper movement of vehicles

SYLHET, July 16: People of different villages in Sunamganj district have been suffering much as the ongoing flood has damaged many roads there.
Innumerable potholes and ditches have developed on the roads, inundated by the flood water for days together, locals and officials said, adding, it has affected inhabitants of all the 11 upazilas.
Major breaches have taken place on at least 51 points. Plying of buses, trucks and pick- up as well as the other small and light vehicles is being badly affected.
Some affected roads are: Sunamganj-Dharargaon-Haluarghat road connecting the Dolura borders, Sunamganj-Biswambharpur-Tahirpur Road, Doarabazar-Banglabazar British Road, Doarabazar-Bogla Road, Sunamganj-Sachna Road, Dharmapasha-Madhyanagar Road, Dharmapasha-Joysri Road, Sunamganj- Jogonnathpur Road, Madhyanagar-Bongshikunda Road, Sunamganj-Sylhet Road and Derai-Shulla Road.
Ditches have also developed on about 150 km of the roads of the Roads and Highways Department while about 200 km on the LGED roads have been inundated causing much damage.
Higher authorities have already been informed about the situation, official sources said.
