Flood situation further improves in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Sept 6 (BSS): Over all flood situation in the district further improved as the water level in the river Jamuna was flowing below the danger level during the last 24 hours today.

Water Development Board office sources said during the period Jamuna receded 15 cm and was flowing 76 cm below the red mark at Bahadurabad Ghat point at 12 noon today.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office (DRRO) sources said bleaching powders, oral saline and water purifying tablets were distributed among the flood affected families to prevent water borne diseases in the flood affected areas.

Over 0.5 million people in 54 unions in all the seven upazilas in the district were affected by the floods.

The DRR office said dried foods and other essential materials worth of Tk about 2.1 million metric tones of rice were distributed among the flood victims.

Deputy Commissioner M Shahabuddin Khan said, flood water receded from most of the affected houses and relief distribution is continuing.
